Frequently Asked Questions

What is your return policy?
We offer a 3-day money-back return policy with a 5% restocking fee for all credit/debit card purchases.

Do you buy or trade instruments?
We assess your item based on its average value, using data from reputable websites like Reverb and eBay. We typically offer you 50% of the average market value.

Which methods of payment do you accept?
We accept cash and all major credit cards, including American Express, though we prefer other methods over AmEx.

Do you have a Reverb store?
Yes, we have a Reverb store in addition to selling inventory on our website. However, we prefer customers to shop directly through our website, as it helps us keep things local.

How much of your inventory is listed on your website?
We try to list as much inventory as possible on our website and Reverb, but our stock changes quickly, and we handle many consignments. Therefore, not everything is online. Feel free to call the shop to inquire about specific items.

What is your shipping policy?
Your purchase from South Austin Music will be shipped via FedEx or USPS to the address you provide. Please allow 1-3 days to receive your tracking number.
If you need to return an item, it must be returned within 10 days of receipt. Items returned after 10 days are subject to a restocking fee.

What is your repair turnaround, bench fee, and hourly rate?
Our skilled technicians can perform almost any type of repair or modification for your guitar or amplifier.

  • Guitar setups and repairs: $125 per hour, plus parts if needed
  • Amp repairs: $90 bench fee, plus parts
Our turnaround times vary; feel free to contact us for an estimate.

What is a guitar setup?
A general guitar setup involves adjusting the string height (“action”) to ensure easy playability without fret buzz. Our technician also checks and adjusts the tuning of fretted strings along the neck (“intonation”) for optimal tuning accuracy. We clean the guitar body, ensure all electronics are dust-free, and verify that the soldering is secure.
